Facts About Hypnosis

Is Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy the same as sleep?

No, it’s not the same, it’s an altered state of mind similar to daydreaming, or becoming so absorbed in an activity that you lose track of time. During these times you are not asleep, merely unconcerned about your surroundings at the time.

How does trance feel?

It’s similar to drifting off to sleep at night, that stage when you are not quite awake and not quite asleep, you may feel a sense of weightlessness or you may feel heaviness as all your muscles relax. Everyone experiences it differently, and your therapist will be able to reassure you and help you relax and enjoy the experience.

Will I lose control during hypnosis?

You always have control, and you can always hear what’s going on. Hypnosis is nothing but a state of relaxed deep focus. It is a natural state that you enter at least twice a day (while waking up and while falling asleep!), and probably much more often than that.

Can anybody be hypnotised?

Nobody can be hypnotised against their will, so if you choose not to be hypnotised, then the hypnotism will not happen. However, it is said that if you allow the process to occur, that most people are hypnotisable. It is important to have good rapport and a comfortable relationship with your therapist.

What can hypnosis be used to treat.

Hypnosis can be used to help treat a wide range of issues such as:

Changing unwanted behaviours

  • Fears and phobias
  • Anxiety and stress
  • Panic attacks
  • Insomnia

Building New behaviours

  • Personal Influence
  • Authentic Confidence
  • Reconnecting with yourself
  • Improving Motivation

Healing & Relieving negative belief

  • I’m not good enough
  • Good things happen to other people
  • I’ll never work this out
  • I’m unfixable

Empowering self esteem

  • Improve Self Worth
  • Changing your story to change your life.

It can also be used as a tool to:

  • Manage pain
  • Improve performance at work or in sport
  • Improve birthing outcomes

Does hypnosis and hypnotherapy involve drugs?

None whatsoever. The hypnotherapist merely uses their voice to create pleasant scenes, which may mean that you will be picturing, as in daydreams, the things that are being spoken of, and that you may experience the associated pleasant feelings.

Are there any side effects from hypnotism?

The worst possible side effect is that you will fall asleep! If the hypnotherapist were to stop talking for a while, you could either allow yourself to become more relaxed and so fall asleep, or you could open your eyes. You are in total control of your hypnotic experience. On the other hand, the best possible side effect that you will notice is a complete alleviation of your present problem, and the knowledge that you were able to create your own success.
